Web design in London

There are more than three thousand accountancy practices inside the twelve London and Essex locations we cover. Being generically visible in that market is not a strategy.

“Web design London” attracts 3,600 searches a month, more than every other location on this site combined, and its keyword difficulty is 27, which is unusually low for that volume. That combination is why a well-built accountancy website can still win in London, and why most practices never try.

Web design in London, in one paragraph

Web design in London for accountancy practices is the largest market we work, more than 3,100 firms across the twelve areas below, and the largest search term in the build at 3,600 a month with a difficulty of 27.

One thing worth knowing before you spend anything on it: the top three results on this term are Google map listings, not web pages. A website alone will not reach them. Builds are £1,450 to £5,500 one-off, three to four weeks, £50 a month, and the Google Business Profile is free and matters more here than anywhere.

The local picture

Why London is winnable despite the volume

The instinct is that London is too competitive to bother with. The data says otherwise. At a keyword difficulty of 27 out of 100, the head term sits inside the range a new site can realistically reach, while Essex at 45 and south London at 53 are both harder. The London market is large enough that no single agency dominates it, which is exactly the condition under which a focused specialist wins.

The borough is where the work actually happens

Nobody searches for an accountant in "London". They search in Croydon, Ealing, Ilford or Richmond, and they choose from a map pack of three. That is why this page links down to eleven borough and town pages rather than trying to be everything. The London page earns the broad searches; the borough pages earn the enquiries.

The concentration is extraordinary

There are 1,166 accountancy practices within five kilometres of Westminster alone, and 363 within five kilometres of Ilford. For comparison, Chelmsford has 70. A London practice is competing in one of the densest professional services markets in Europe, which raises the return on saying clearly who you are for.

Cost

What web design costs in London

London pricing spans a wider range than anywhere else in the country, largely because the phrase covers three completely different purchases. Here is what you are choosing between.

What you are buyingRoughlyWhat you get, and what you do not
A template, set up for you£0 to £800A theme with your logo dropped in. Fast and cheap. No structure, no strategy, and it looks like the other firms who bought the same theme.
A specialist build£1,450 to £5,500Designed around who you are for, written from a brief, structured so each service and specialism can rank. This is where we sit.
A full agency engagement£10,000 upwardsBrand work, research, a project team, meetings. Genuinely worth it for a firm of a certain size. Considerable overhead for a practice of four.

Our prices are the same whether you are in Mayfair or Southend: £1,450 for five pages, £2,950 for twelve to fifteen, £5,500 for a full location and specialism cluster. All exclude VAT. There is no London premium, because the work is done in writing and a postcode does not make it harder.

The London problem

Why “accountants in London” is the wrong target

It is the most contested term in the profession, the top of the page is taken by map listings rather than websites, and the searcher is rarely worth what it costs to reach them. There is a better way to spend the same effort.

The map pack takes the top

On most London searches the first thing below the ads is a block of three map listings, not websites. If your Google Business Profile is not set up properly you are not competing for those positions at all, however good the site is.

Borough beats city

Nobody in Bromley searches for an accountant in London. They search for one in Bromley, or they search for the problem. A page per borough you actually serve outperforms one page trying to own the whole city.

Specialism beats geography

“Accountant for Shopify sellers” has a fraction of the search volume and a multiple of the value, because the person typing it will not be comparing you on fee with four identical firms.

Intent beats volume

A term searched thirty times a month by people with a specific problem is worth more than one searched three thousand times by students, job hunters and people looking for a different service entirely.

So we build the borough pages and the specialism pages, set up the profile that puts you in the map, and let the city-wide term arrive as a by-product rather than a target.

Coverage

How a London practice should choose its locations

More pages is not better. Each one has to be genuinely about that place, or Google treats the set as one page and you have paid for twelve.

  • Where your clients already are. Look at your client list by postcode. Start with the three or four boroughs that already appear most, because you can write about them credibly.
  • Where the businesses you want are. Creative and media in Shoreditch and Hackney. Property and landlords across Richmond, Kingston and Wandsworth. Contractors around the City and Canary Wharf. Retail and hospitality across Croydon, Ealing and Ilford.
  • Where you can actually service. If the work is fully remote, say so plainly on the page rather than implying an office you do not have.
  • Not everywhere at once. Four strong borough pages beat thirty-two weak ones, and always will.

What London practices say

They understood the accountancy sector

What impressed us most was how quickly they understood our firm, our clients and the services we wanted to grow. The whole process was straightforward from start to finish.

David P.Practice Director

We're getting better enquiries

Since launching the new website, we've seen a noticeable improvement in the quality of enquiries coming through. Potential clients understand our services before they even speak to us.

Sarah M.Chartered Accountant

More than just a good-looking website

We wanted a website that could help us attract new clients, not simply act as an online brochure. The finished site looks excellent and is already generating new business.

Michael T.Accountancy Practice Owner

Collected directly from practices we have built websites for. Names are shortened at their request. We do not publish reviews we cannot evidence, and we do not add star rating markup to our own pages.

FAQs

London questions

How competitive is web design in London?

Less than the volume suggests. "Web design London" attracts 3,600 searches a month at a keyword difficulty of 27 out of 100, which sits inside the range a well-built new site can reach. By comparison "web design Essex" scores 45 and "web design south London" scores 53, both harder despite far lower volume.

Which London boroughs do you cover?

We have dedicated pages for Westminster, Croydon, Ealing, Greenwich, Ilford, Kingston, Richmond, Sutton, Wandsworth and Bromley, plus Chelmsford and Southend-on-Sea in Essex. We work with practices anywhere in the UK; these are simply where our local presence is strongest.

Do you work with central London firms?

Yes. Westminster alone has 1,166 accountancy practices within five kilometres, the densest concentration we measured anywhere. Central London firms usually take Practice Growth or Authority because the competition makes specialism pages worth more.

Do you need to meet in person?

No. The whole build runs on written briefs and reviews, which is faster and survives your January. If you would rather meet, we are London-based and happy to.

Does pricing change by location?

No. A Croydon practice pays what a Westminster practice pays. From £1,450 as a one-off for Practice Starter, with a £50 a month care plan alongside.

What is the typical cost of a website design in London?

It depends entirely on which of three things you are buying. A template set up for you runs from nothing to a few hundred pounds. A specialist build designed and written around your practice typically sits between £1,450 and £5,500. A full agency engagement with brand work and a project team starts around £10,000. Our packages are £1,450, £2,950 and £5,500 one-off, excluding VAT, and they are the same price everywhere in the country.

Is web design still worth it in 2026?

For a regulated professional service, more than ever, because the website now has two audiences rather than one. It still has to convince the referred prospect who looks you up before calling. It also has to be readable by the AI assistants that increasingly answer the question before anyone clicks a result, and those quote structured, factual pages. A practice with no website, or one that says nothing specific, is invisible to both.

How much does a small business website cost in the UK?

Most small business sites in the UK are bought somewhere between a few hundred pounds for a template and around five thousand for a designed and written build. What moves the number is how many pages there are, whether the copy is written for you or by you, and how many systems are connected to it. Ours start at £1,450 for five pages.

Do you have an office in London?

The registered office is 124 City Road, London EC1V 2NX. The work itself is done in writing rather than in meetings, which is why the price is the same wherever you are and why nothing waits on a diary.

Is web design more expensive in London?

It usually is, and with us it is not. Agencies with central London offices carry central London overheads and price accordingly. Because our work is done in writing rather than in meetings, a postcode makes no difference to what it costs us, so it makes no difference to what it costs you.

How long does a London web design project take?

Three to four weeks for a five page build, five to six for twelve to fifteen pages, eight to ten for a full location and specialism cluster. The clock starts when the brief arrives, and those dates hold as long as sign-off comes back within three working days at each stage.

Can you help us rank for our borough rather than for London?

That is what we would recommend. A borough page written with genuine knowledge of the business mix there outperforms a city-wide page competing against every firm in the capital. Combined with a properly set up Google Business Profile, it is also how you reach the map listings that sit above the ordinary results.

What makes an accountancy website different from a general business website?

Three things. It is a YMYL subject in Google’s terms, so it is held to a higher evidence standard and needs visible credentials. Your professional body constrains what the copy may claim. And the buyer is making a trust decision about money, which means named people, a stated regulator and a real address do more than any design choice.
