SEO and AI visibility for accountants
Being found now has two halves, so we sell them as one service. The first is ranking on Google, where a prospective client scans the map pack and the top three results. The second is being named inside the AI answer that increasingly sits above those results, where a shortlist gets made before anyone clicks anything. Splitting those into separate retainers is an agency convenience, not a client benefit: the same pages, the same schema and the same content do both jobs. Retainers start at £497 a month, first movement typically in three to four months, and no minimum contract.
What one click on "accountant SEO" costs on Google Ads in the UK right now. For "accountants for contractors" it is £67.64.
Organic and AI visibility cost the same whether one person clicks or three hundred do. That is the whole argument.

Three situations where accountancy SEO pays
You are invisible outside your own name
Search your firm and you appear. Search "accountant in your town" and you do not. That gap is every prospect who has not heard of you yet, which is most of them.
You want a different kind of client
You are getting one-off self assessments and want retained limited company work. Generic ranking brings generic enquiries. Specialism pages bring the clients you actually want.
Your ad spend has stopped making sense
At £29.74 a click, a modest Google Ads budget buys a handful of visits a week. Organic does not stop the moment you stop paying, and it compounds.
Six things in every retainer
There is no AI visibility upgrade to buy later. It is in the base price because it is the same work.
Local pack and Google Business Profile
Categories, services, service areas, posts, Q&A, review generation and photo cadence. For most practices the map pack produces enquiries before organic does, sometimes within six weeks.
Service and specialism pages
One page per thing you actually sell, written individually. Not a services list with four bullet points, and not the same page repeated with the town name swapped, which Google has been demoting for years.
Location pages that differ
Each one carries its own local practice count, real landmarks, unique FAQs and links to the nearest three. If a page could be find-and-replaced into another town, it is not doing its job.
AI visibility, in the base price
Answer-first openings, question-phrased headings, dated figures, and FAQ, Service and Article schema. This is what gets a firm named inside an AI answer rather than buried under it. Other agencies sell it separately. We do not, because it is the same pages and the same work.
Technical and speed work
Core Web Vitals, crawlability, internal linking, canonical and redirect hygiene, sitemap and Search Console. Unglamorous, and the reason good content sometimes goes nowhere without it.
Compliance review before publishing
Every page checked against the ICAEW Code of Ethics and the ACCA Rulebook. Unsubstantiated savings claims, disparaging comparisons and misuse of Chartered are the three that catch firms out.

The accountancy SEO landscape, measured
We ran the whole UK keyword set before building this brand. Two things stood out, and they shape how we work.
| What people search | Searches/mo | Difficulty | Cost per click | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| accountant seo | 320 | 0 | £29.74 | Expensive clicks, almost nobody competing organically |
| seo for accountants | 210 | 0 | £18.38 | Same story, second phrasing |
| accountants for contractors | 590 | 0 | £67.64 | The most expensive client acquisition in the profession |
| accountants for ecommerce | 720 | 3 | £25.92 | Growing segment, still wide open |
| accountants for dentists | 720 | 0 | £24.41 | High value, low organic competition |
| web design london | 3,600 | 27 | £10.12 | Even the head term is winnable |
| accountant website | 1,300 | 92 | £20.95 | Looks like the prize, is a trap. We avoid it |
DataforSEO, United Kingdom, English, September 2026. Difficulty is on a 0 to 100 scale where anything under 30 is realistically winnable for a new site.
These numbers move. The gap in accountancy search will not stay this open. We will tell you what is winnable for your firm right now.
The money terms are almost uncontested
Nine commercial accountancy terms score zero on difficulty while carrying cost-per-click figures between £18 and £68. That combination, expensive traffic with no organic competition, does not last. It is the single best reason to start now rather than next year.
The obvious keyword is the worst one
"Accountant website" gets 1,300 searches a month and looks like the target. Its difficulty is 92, the pages ranking average 352 referring domains, and its volume has fallen 84% year on year. Chasing it is how practices waste a year of budget.
Four stages, month by month
Audit and plan
Technical audit, keyword and difficulty screen for your specialisms and towns, competitor and AI citation review. You get the plan as a written document, not a dashboard login and not a meeting.
Foundations
Fix what is broken, rebuild page structure, Google Business Profile, schema, speed. This is where the map pack usually starts moving.
Build and publish
Service pages, specialism pages, location pages and guides, on a published schedule. Two substantial pieces a month on the growth retainer.
Report and adjust
Monthly report in plain English: enquiries, calls, rankings, AI citations. Two pages, not forty. Ask questions by email or WhatsApp, or book a call if you would rather talk.
Three retainers, published prices
Google and AI visibility together in every tier, never split into two invoices. Month to month with thirty days notice, no setup fee, and everything we build belongs to you and stays with you if you leave.

AI visibility is in all three, including Local. Most agencies now sell it as a separate line item. It is the same pages, the same schema and the same work as the SEO, so charging twice for it would be hard to justify. What the higher tiers buy you is more pages, more locations and more content, not access to a feature we withheld.
One thing we will not do. We will not take a retainer to optimise a site that cannot be optimised. If your current website is on a locked-down platform, is too slow to fix, or has no structure to build on, we will tell you at the audit stage and quote for a rebuild instead of billing you monthly to push a rock uphill.
What practice owners ask before signing
Can you guarantee page one?
No, and nobody honest can. What we can tell you is which terms are realistically winnable for your firm, because we screen every one for difficulty before we target it. Anyone guaranteeing page one is either picking terms nobody searches or doing something you will have to undo later.
We tried SEO before and nothing happened.
The two usual reasons are targeting terms that were never winnable, and publishing location pages that were the same page with the town swapped. Both are visible in an audit within an hour. We will tell you which one it was.
Is this just blogging?
No. Content is one of five workstreams alongside local pack, technical, structure and AI visibility. For most single-office practices the map pack moves the needle first, and that is not blogging at all.
How do we know it is working?
Enquiries and calls, first. Rankings and AI citations, second. The monthly report leads with the numbers that affect your fee income, not with impressions, and it arrives in writing so you can forward it to a partner.
Will it clash with our compliance obligations?
Not if the copy is right. The risk is in claims, not in technique. Every page is reviewed against the ICAEW Code of Ethics and the ACCA Rulebook before publishing, so your compliance partner gets a clean review.
Do we have to rebuild the website?
Not always. If your site is technically sound and we can edit it, we work with what you have. We would rather tell you the truth at audit stage than take a retainer that cannot deliver.
SEO and AI visibility, answered
How long does SEO take for an accountancy practice?
Expect the first movement in three to four months and meaningful enquiry volume by month six to nine. Local pack improvements can land faster, sometimes within four to six weeks, because Google Business Profile responds more quickly than organic rankings do. Anyone promising page one in thirty days is either targeting terms nobody searches or is about to do something you will have to undo.
How much does SEO and AI visibility cost for accountants?
Our combined SEO and AI visibility retainers are £497 a month for a single-office local campaign, £997 a month for a growth campaign covering multiple locations and a specialism, and £1,997 a month for a multi-office authority campaign. There is no minimum contract and no setup fee, and AI visibility is included at every tier rather than sold as an add-on.
Is SEO worth it when a click costs £29.74?
That figure is what your competitors pay per click on Google Ads for "accountant SEO" in the UK, and terms like "accountants for contractors" reach £67.64 per click. Organic and AI visibility cost the same whether one person clicks or three hundred do, which is what makes the economics work over a twelve month horizon.
What is the difference between SEO and AI visibility?
SEO gets you into the ranked list of blue links. AI visibility gets you named inside the answer that now appears above those links. They share foundations such as clean structure and schema, but AI visibility additionally requires answer-first writing, question-phrased headings and specific dated figures that a language model can quote without rewriting.
Do we need to change our website to do SEO?
Not always. If your site is technically sound and on a platform we can edit, we work with what you have. If it is slow, built on a locked-down platform, or has no page structure to build on, we will say so and quote for the rebuild rather than charge you a retainer to push a rock uphill.
Will SEO breach ICAEW or ACCA marketing rules?
Not if it is done properly. The risk sits in the copy rather than the technique. Unsubstantiated claims such as guaranteed savings, disparaging comparisons with named firms, and incorrect use of Chartered or Chartered Certified are the common breaches. Every page we publish is reviewed against the ICAEW Code of Ethics and the ACCA Rulebook before it goes live.
Are we tied into a contract?
No. Retainers run month to month with thirty days notice. Everything we build, including the pages, the schema and the Google Business Profile, belongs to you and stays with you if you leave.
