Local SEO for accountants
Local SEO is the work of appearing in the map pack when someone searches for an accountant near them. For most single-office practices it produces enquiries before organic rankings do, sometimes within four to six weeks, and it is included in every SEO and AI visibility retainer from £497 a month.
Six things you get
Google Business Profile, properly
Categories, services, service areas, opening hours, posts, Q&A and photos. Most profiles are set up once and never touched, which is why most of them do not rank.
Review generation
A repeatable way to ask, at the moment a client is most likely to say yes. Review count and recency are among the strongest local ranking signals there are.
Location pages that differ
Each one written individually, with its own practice count, landmarks and FAQs. Not one page repeated with the town swapped.
Citations and consistency
Name, address and phone identical everywhere it appears. Inconsistent details across directories quietly suppress local rankings.
Service area strategy
For practices without a walk-in office, set up as a service area business rather than pretending to a location you do not have.
Reporting that means something
Calls, direction requests and enquiries, not impressions. Monthly, in writing, on two pages.

Why the map pack matters more than position four
The three map results sit above the organic list and carry a phone number, a review score and directions. In a borough like Croydon, where 228 accountancy practices compete inside five kilometres, appearing in that box is worth more than ranking fourth in the blue links underneath it.
The location page mistake
Most agencies build location pages by copying one page and swapping the town name. Google has been demoting that for years and it is obvious to a human reader too. Every location page we build carries its own local practice count, real landmarks, unique FAQs and links to its nearest neighbours. If a page could be find-and-replaced into another town, it is not doing its job.
Local SEO for accountants, answered
How long before we appear in the map pack?
Often four to six weeks for a profile that has never been optimised, which is faster than organic rankings. It depends on how competitive your town is and how complete your profile was to begin with.
We have no office. Can we still rank locally?
Yes, as a service area business. You set the areas you cover rather than an address, and the profile does not display a location. Trying to fake an address is the fastest way to get a profile suspended.
How many location pages do we need?
Fewer than most agencies sell you. Twelve well-written pages beat fifty thin ones, and we cap a launch at twelve for exactly that reason. We screen every location for search volume and difficulty before building a page for it.
Do reviews really matter that much?
Yes. Count, recency and whether you reply are all signals, and they also do the persuading once someone sees you. A profile with four reviews from 2022 is a weak result even if everything else is right.
Is local SEO separate from the main retainer?
No. It is included in all three SEO and AI visibility tiers, including Local at £497 a month. We do not sell it as an add-on.
